The two most classic pairings of Chinoiserie are with English or French furniture and design. In the Southern Accents 2009 Riverhills Showhouse, a taste of the English countryside was brought to Texas. I have featured the many rooms that incorporated Chinoiserie. For a complete tour, click here. Note the antique Chinese and Japanese porcelain, de Gournay wallpaper, Siamese figures, foo dogs, framed Chinese needlepoint, screen, Chinoiserie fabrics, and Chinoiserie chandeliers, all combined with English furniture for an elegant and traditional look.
Beth, thank you for the reminder of this beautiful home. My husband and I drove over from Dallas one weekend to tour Southern Accents' last offering and it was definitely worth the trip. Every threshold we crossed held additional beautiful Chinoiserie touches that were irresistable. I know that all the decorative pieces in this house were for sale at the end of the tour so some very lucky people took home some breathtaking items. My skinny pocketbook never had a chance. Didn't matter to me: the place was glorious and not to be missed.
ReplyDeleteLove the mix.
