Flowering Quince

This is one of my favorite Chinoiserie wallpapers-Flowering Quince by Clarence House. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the iconic Costello bedroom featured in Domino, but I thought it would be fun to see the same paper in different spaces. The photo above is Lisa Borgnes Giramonti's (A Bloomsbury Life) Los Angeles entry. It is classic and beautiful, but also quirky with its bold bench, black painted door, red stair runner, and sheep. It was featured in Canadian House & Home. Did Canada invade L.A.? This Mad Men mid century modern bedroom in Denver is the work of Jeffrey P. Elliott. He uses James Mont night stands, Dunbar chairs, and a custom silk headboard to create this sophisticated Chinoiserie retreat.

This favorite from Domino of the Costello's master bedroom in New York City. It belongs to Paul Costello, ex-photographer of Domino and his wife Sara Ruffin Costello, ex-style director of Domino.

Flowering Quince was created by the brilliant artist and fabric designer Kazami Yoshida. If you are looking for a Chinoiserie wallpaper that is a classic, look no further. It is perfect for an entry, a powder room, a bedroom, a walk-in closet, a breakfast room, or even framed as panels. It also is available in 100% linen fabric.

  7. I adore this paper. I am scared for it. I am afraid it might turn into one of those trends that we all look back on and think- what was I thinking?
But until then- I am going to keep on LOVING it!

  8. The stairwell is my favorite - the corners and close walls give the paper such an organic feel - as if trees are really growing there. Pairing with the IKAT is fantastic. Great look.

  9. I've used this once in a room with tall ceilings-the problem with it is it is so vertical unless it is in a large space or one that has breaks & varying-it looks abrupt at the top to cut it off-In contrast to the paper in the Chinoiserie pic by R. Smith. That pattern rambles just enough to have a gracious finish. The black colorway stems in the Quince are particularly jarring. GT

  19. On the jobsite yesterday quince littered the garden grounds. A few on the bush.

Gorgeous yellow with chartreuse. Fragrance to soothe the soul. How wonderful to plant outside a room with your quince wallpaper.

  20. RoRoMom-Canadian House & Home is a wonderful magazine and I'm sure is attracting many U.S. readers with the demise of so many of our shelter magazines. But I'm glad L.A. is safe.

  21. Tara-Japanese Flowering Quince is one of my favorite shrubs and I have several. It is also one of the most beautiful for forcing branches and displaying in a blue and white Chinoiserie vase.

  22. Simply stunning. I've seen this wallpaper in a lot of shelter mags but didn't know what it was called -- thanks for the tip!

Does it come in any other colorways?

  23. Averill-As far as I know, the only variation is the stems in a black or green colorway.
