To quote Tony Duquette, coral is my neutral. This color works beautifully with any Chinoiserie pieces-blue and white Chinese porcelain, Blance de Chine, red lacquerware, black and gold all pop against coral. I especially love the idea of painting the back of a bookcase or cabinet. Don't you love this reading nook by Phoebe Howard above? Below, an antique piece takes on a modern Chinoiserie flair with the inside painted in coral. Depending on the rest of the room, you can choose a coral pink like above, or a more orange version like below. I especially like Farrow & Ball Fowler Pink which is quite a masculine coral that works beautifully in a room with brown, green, blue, or gray.
This beautiful display cabinet by The Well Appointed House would be the perfect spot for your blue and white collection.
These color ideas from Martha Stewart are wonderful-a celadon bookcase with coral backs and and all white collection.
That secretary is such a wonderful surprise!
ReplyDeleteI love TD, but wish he had really gone for broke with red! Did you see HOBAC's Geoffrey Bennison room?
ReplyDeleteSince I began reading your blog, I have really been thinking about corals and melons! The niche in the first photo is so gorgeous, I'm going to print it and see if Hubbs can construct that for me!!! Also, I'm wondering if Harrison and Phoebe Howard are related!
ReplyDeleteHELLO, CHINOISERIE-
ReplyDeleteSO CHIC...
Apricot, coral, terra cotta, pale pumpkin, kumquat, persimmon...all those slightly off tones can be pumped up to bright and bold or paled down to a softer intonation that's like dusty rose.
Beautiful inspiration here, so subtle.
Happy days, www.thestylesaloniste.com
Tasty, thank you for widening my horizons with the coral on furnishings.

My absolutely favorite colour (and lipstick too)! The bookcase by MS is a great look.

ReplyDeleteAlison-A great DIY idea.
ReplyDeleteKitty-I would love that in my home. I don't think there is any relation, but I think they would have much in common.
ReplyDeleteDiane-Some lovely ideas to upcycle things with a can of paint. I love these looks.
ReplyDeleteTara-A lovely color for the home or the garden.
ReplyDeleteSande-Such a flattering color.
ReplyDeleteTheresa-Some inspiring ideas.
ReplyDeleteHome Before Dark-The Bennison room is a gorgeous room and color, though not for the faint of heart. These I've pictured here are baby steps!
ReplyDeleteI love Howard's coral nook. It's so wonderfully dramatic and yet cozy at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAverill-A new project for the new house?
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely! Right now, the interior of my dressing closet is in a deep gray, but wouldn't this color be a delightful surprise? Such a cheerful and warm tone. I will definitely write these colors down...this might be a little project for next weekend :)
ReplyDeleteSarah-Perfect for a closet.
