Red lacquer has been prized for centuries, and here is a budget friendly version. I am a big fan of Ikea. If you have a good eye for design, you can find stylish modern pieces there at exceptionally reasonable prices. This Billy bookcase in red was even featured in the August House Beautiful. HB describes it as looking like it came right out of Diana Vreeland's famous Billy Baldwin living room. At $59.99 for the bookcase, or $398.98 for the bookcase system below, it is a great price. As we saw yesterday in Alessandra Branca's brilliant apartment, red adds such a punch to any room.
Love the Billy [let's pretend that's named for Billy Baldwin] bookcase with the glass fronts. I love the idea of papering the back in a coordinating red paper!
ReplyDeleteHow about mirroring the back?!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by how mush chinoiserie you could gather here !! it's endless . .. and I 'm a fan of chinoiserie .
ReplyDeleteNote to self; next house incorporate red lacquer! What a deal on these terrific bookcases. Mirroring, papering = perfect!
ReplyDeleteAverill-Papering the back is a brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteStefan-That would make these look quite custom and high end.
ReplyDeleteZelda-Thanks for stopping by. I love this subject.
ReplyDeleteI love the simple shape combined with the strong color.
ReplyDeleteDumbwit Tellher-A very dramatic look.
ReplyDeleteSF-A great look.
ReplyDeleteMy Godson actually chose Ikeas reds for his room at the ripe age of 7 to show off his vintage game, collected during his tagalongs to my antiquing & flea markets.
ReplyDeleteIt wears like a dream...he is still a little boy underneath that artistic soul.
Alicia-Wow-that's a great endorsement as to its durability.
