The Blue and White Kitchen

House Beautiful

Here is an example of a bold take on the blue and white kitchen. Cabinets are painted in Benjamin Moore's Champion Cobalt, contrasting beautifully with the white ginger jars and Carrara marble. But the overdose of staged flowers, fruits, and vegetables? Enough already! What is this, a farmers market or a kitchen? Whoever told the magazines they had to go crazy with this? Wouldn't one tasteful arrangement suffice instead of dozens of gaudy yellow flowers, artichokes, and peaches, none of which go with the feel of the kitchen? I promise that when I have my kitchen reveal on the One Room Challenge there will not be a single staged radish.

  1. I can't agree with you more on staging!! So many times I look as photographs in magazines or on blogs and think "thats not how a room looks or is used so why is that there"? I am so glad to hear someone else say it too! This blue, for me, is just a little over the top and I love blue and white just as much as the next person.

  2. LOL! I could not agree more! And as a personal "rub": sunflowers are considered a weed in the part of Texas where I grew up and I would NEVER use them in ANY sort of floral arrangement ANYWHERE EVER!! I do not find them attractive at all. Can't wait for YOUR ORC reveal!!!

  3. I'm in Kansas, but not a native. I hate sunflowers (the state flower). They are weedy and always have bugs that come inside with them. I'm sure your kitchen will be chic but not edible. Looking forward to it!

  4. Right On Woman! As a stager, on of my pet peeves is contrived staging. All they needed to add to this 'stupid staging' (personal term of contempt) is a cutting board with a sliced lemon and an knife laying on it.
