Are Pink Incandescent Light Bulbs Back?

Soft Pink Sylvania Light Bulbs

Some of my most popular posts on Chinoiserie Chic have been on the "banning" of incandescent light bulbs. Read "No More Pretty in Pink" here. Put your reading glasses on and pour yourself another cup of coffee....

This is from The Edison Report - "On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed the 'Unleashing American Energy' executive order, which, among other provisions, removed the ban on incandescent light bulbs. This action aims to 'safeguard the American people’s freedom to choose from a variety of goods and appliances, including but not limited to lightbulbs.'

Pink Light Bulbs Revisited

Sylvania Pink Light Bulbs

I was in Lowe's recently and it occurred to me how I use to grab my favorite Sylvania pink incandescent light bulbs without a thought. Then when Sylvania stopped making them, I would order the G.E. version from Amazon by the case. And here we fast forward to 2024 and they are illegal and selling on eBay for a small fortune. Life is certainly strange isn't it?

No More Pretty in Pink - Update

R.I.P.

I still get comments and emails all the time from folks desperate to find a replacement for our gone but not forgotten (now banned) pink incandescent light bulbs. I did an update a while back saying that my search for substitutes was a complete bust. Here is an update on the current status.

A Chinoiserie Vignette

This is such a pretty vignette mixing lots of patterns and warm fall colors. Note the patterned lampshade on the patterned lamp base.

Gone But Not Forgotten - Pink Light Bulbs

R.I.P.

It is very possible that I have posted on pink light bulbs more than any other topic. I started recommending pink light bulbs on Chinoiserie Chic back in 2011. I have continued posting on them frequently until recently when I started warning everyone nonstop to stock up as incandescent bulbs were about to be banned.

The ban has now gone into effect. One cannot manufacture them without meeting impossible standards that would make them cost prohibitive and they are now illegal to sell. I am not just talking about pink incandescents, but a ban on virtually all incandescent bulbs that went into effect August 1. Halogens do not meet the new standards either. And importing the banned bulbs is likewise illegal.

Pink Light Bulbs - Restocked!!!!!

Pink Light Bulbs

These very elusive 60 watt incandescent pink light bulbs have just restocked. I have tried loads of LED bulbs, and they are all truly awful in my opinion. So I have stocked up on incandescent bulbs to last me for years and years as their sale will be illegal starting in July.

No More Pretty in Pink

Pink Light Bulbs

In her famous book Entertaining is Fun, Dorthy Draper recommended switching out your white light bulbs with pink light bulbs when guests come over. Pink bulbs are incredibly flattering to everyone, reducing the look of wrinkles and giving you a healthy rosy glow. So much cheaper and easier than plastic surgery or painting the room pink.

I have used pink light bulbs in all of my lamps for literally decades and have posted about them several times. Light bulbs have been political footballs for years - the phase out of incandescent bulbs was proposed by the Bush administration, put into law by the Obama administration, rolled back by the Trump administration, and now two new strict standards have been put into effect by the Biden administration.
