Fu Dog Rules

 Mr. Howard posted this stunning vignette on Instagram and queried whether the fu dogs on these ginger jars are supposed to be facing forward or facing each other? I for some reason previously always had them facing each other, but now prefer to have them facing forward. I am sure I have read that they should never be facing away from each other. What do you do? The Rules of Chinoiserie - LOL.

Whether you spell them "foo dogs" or "fu dogs," you can't shake a Chinoiserie stick lately without hitting a blue foo dog. Whether new, vintage, or antique, they add a great pop of color anywhere. A pair deserve a spot in any Chinoiserie lover's home, so they are on my top ten list.

Blue Fu Dogs

Everywhere I look I am seeing blue fu dogs. They have become a Chinoiserie classic for the Hollywood Regency look. Isn't this fu dog garden in Robert Allerton Park in Illinois incredible? Be on the lookout for a pair for your home-great sources include eBay, flea markets, Pier One, Pearl River, and 1st dibs.
