Memorial Day falls a bit early this year with Memorial Day weekend kicking off on the 23rd. One of my favorite ideas for decorating the table or sideboard is these pagoda lanterns. They are available in red, white, and two different blues. I love using them with battery pillar candles.

Memorial Day falls quite early this year - May 25th and, of course, the Fourth of July will be a big deal this year with our nation's 250th. I was in New York City for the 200th and still remember the Tall Ships and the fireworks. I will also be hosting a Fourth of July Wine Tasting & Pairing and have started thinking about red, white, and blue decorations. I just found these fabulous wicker indoor and oudoor Stars and Stripes hot air balloons at HomeGoods.

Memorial Day is right around the corner. Setting the Memorial Day table is a no-brainer for the lover of chinoiserie. Use blue and white Chinese porcelain as your centerpiece(s). Fill blue and white ginger jars, cachepots, or vases with red, white, and/or blue flowers - roses, tulips, carnations, hydrangeas, lilies are all beautiful and easily found.

In honor of Memorial Day weekend, I thought it might be fun to show some red, white, and blue Chinoiserie rooms that are elegant and not kitschy which is indeed a delicate balance. You don't want your house to end up looking like the Star Spangled Banner.

The Mary McDonald hall above is gorgeous with its blue and white Chinese fish bowls filled with lemon topiaries. The billowy red linen curtains are lovely and not fussy. No Miles Redd ruffles here.

I think the key is to keep the red as pops of color, not dominant.

Red, White & Blue Inspiration Board

For this Memorial Day weekend, here is an entryway inspiration board in red, white, and blue Chinoiserie. This would be perfect for a beach house in Nantucket, but I love this combination anywhere. I have used a Blue Dot Strut console in Watermelon, a pair of ginger jars from Charlotte & Ivy, a navy blue pagoda mirror, a pair of Dana Gibson ikat lamps, a pair of Charles Edwards pagoda bell lanterns, a pair of antique blanc de Chine Italian greyhounds, and a blue and white striped rug.

Red, white, and blue combines so well with Chinoiserie - think white blanc de Chine, blue and white Chinese porcelain, and Chinese red lacquer. I have a Pinterest board filled with red, white, and blue rooms here. Here is a sampling.
