The walls are hand painted Chinoiserie. Note the mirrored fretwork detail at the top under the molding. The striped silk curtains are a whimsical touch. The chandelier is Russian and the mirror is Venetian.

My Favorite Chinoiserie Entryway

By the late greats Sister Parish and Albert Hadley, this entryway is truly stunning with its pink Chinoiserie wallpaper, black and white marble floor, wrought iron chandelier, garden bench, and the pair of potted palms. I have always adored the iconic Albert Hadley obelisk cabinet shown above. I think the vintage Hollywood Regency cabinet with its gold leafed interior shown below available at LIV Vintage has the same look. The exterior would be fabulous in white as shown or repainted in black. At bottom is a modern version of a cabinet with gold interior at Anthropologie.

Timeless Chinoiserie

This early 1970s project of Parish Hadley featured in Veranda is still wonderful after all this time. The North Carolina home, decorated four decades ago by Sister Parish and Albert Hadley, was recently inherited by the original owners' daughter. I believe that the only significant change she has made was having the previously apricot living room walls glazed in a pea green. I love it all, especially the pink Chinoiserie entry. I think I would just update the guest bedroom, leaving, of course, those wonderful shell headboards.
