| Aerin Classic Shagreen Tray |
Shagreen is a luxurious, durable raw hide, traditionally made from the rough skin of stingrays or sharks, characterized by small, pearl-like bumps. Popularized in 18th-century Europe, it is commonly used to cover furniture, home accessories (boxes, trays), and for small, decorative items like jewelry or weapon grips.
Today, shagreen is primarily made from faux materials—such as polyurethane (PU), polyester resin, or stamped leather—designed to mimic the pebbled texture of stingray or shark skin. These alternatives are more durable, sustainable, and affordable than traditional, authentic hides.
Aerin has a beautiful but very expensive collection of faux shagreen. I posted about a piece yesterday.
The faux shagreen tray above is $550. This one below is $59.99.
