Do You Burp Your Home?

CCC

Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy the day and make sure to spread some love.

I grew up in Germany, and my mother (or more accurately, our German housekeeper), would open the windows every morning, called lüften. Lüften is a traditional German practice of briefly but fully opening windows and doors once or twice daily to exchange stale indoor air with fresh air. Also known as "house burping" or shock ventilation, this 5–10 minute routine prevents mold growth, boosts air quality, and improves sleep and mood, regardless of outside temperatures.

This age old practice has become a popular trend lately on social media. Do experts agree on this?

Yes, experts overwhelmingly say you should "burp" (air out) your house by opening windows briefly to improve indoor air quality, reduce humidity, and remove pollutants like CO2, but do it strategically for 5-10 minutes, ideally when outdoor air is fresh, and consider your climate, as prolonged airing in extreme cold or humidity can be counterproductive for energy efficiency.

Here in Florida, I open my wall of sliders for a few minutes in the morning when it is still cool out. The pups enjoy this time to go out to the lanai for some fresh air too. If you do not already do this, you need to try it. You will notice the difference in how your home feels and smells.

BTW, my Chelsea Dollhouse arrived yesterday and it is gorgeous. And it is now over $100 off! Whether for yourself or a child in your life, this is a wonderful choice and a great buy.

Chelsea Dollhouse

I can't wait to start decorating it.
