A charger plate is a large, decorative plate that acts as a base for other dinnerware. Charger plates serve both aesthetic and practical purposes. Visually, charger plates provide elegance and enhance table decor. Practically, they protect the table and tablecloth from becoming dirty during service. They're also a key feature at fine dining establishments. Two of my china patterns I originally discovered at restaurants where I was dining - one a restaurant in Bermuda and another in Great Falls, Virginia.
Chargers can be made of any material. Back in the day they were often a larger plate than a dinner plate in the same china pattern. Today, rattan ones are hugely popular. When I was looking at the new Mark Sikes collection for Pottery Barn, see yesterday's post, I also happened upon these fantastic wicker seashell chargers that would be so perfect at CCC. A very elegant way to combine two of my favorite elements - rattan and seashells.

Speaking of wicker and seashells, I found a pair of these beautiful food covers at HomeGoods recently.

For years I've been looking for chargers with shells.Pretty ones. Even bought shells to make my own. I'm not a crafter. The shells are still in the bag after years of waiting for a better day. You have now solutioned my problem. These are gorgeous. Ordered a set for my daughter's Rehoboth beach house as well. Oh happy day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beth. Instead of candles, can you recommend an infuser that wafts summer?
As I'm typing this, the little genie on my shoulder whispered....put the shells in/on the footed tray you just bought. Have to play some steel drum music when I put it all together.

I ordered them too. Gorgeous. I will do a post on my favorite summer diffusers tomorrow - great idea.
DeleteMeant diffuser. I'm, infused with major meds. Hence forgetting proper English :)

Meant to add....Rosamund Pilcher's "The Shell seekers" is a wonderful summer read. Written in the 80's, but never gets old. Perhaps some of your older fans would like a trip to Cornwall without the dreaded travel of today.
ReplyDeleteI loved that book! I read it back in the 1980's.I love chargers. I especially love the Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage ware chargers, which I own in green and yellow. Mixing and matching colors sets a beautiful table.
DeleteWhat restaurant in Bermuda and Virginia please
DeleteI was wondering that information, too!
DeleteThis goes back MANY years when I was engaged and picking out wedding china. The Great Falls restaurant was a lovely Italian restaurant in Great Falls Centre that is long gone. I do not recall the name of the restaurant in Bermuda.
