The Kentucky Derby

Mark and Graham

I will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Party this Friday, the night before the Derby, with 30 people coming. It is a wine tasting and food pairing with the wines and foods of the Kentucky Derby.

I have a large collection of hats and fascinators. Since the red rose is the official flower of the Kentucky Derby, I will be wearing a red rose and feather fascinator by my favorite hat designer, Peter Bettley, that I bought on a trip to London.

She will be greeting guests with her vintage derby hat -

Here is the straw horse handbag I will be carrying. I ordered it from Etsy here.

I will be wearing these darling jockey silks earrings and they were under $10.00. There are ten different options all under $10. For Amazon Prime it shows them all arriving before the Derby on Saturday, many with one day delivery.

I am making two Kentucky Derby favorites - pimento cheese spread and Benedictine spread.

The centerpieces will be blue and white ginger jars filled with red roses. And yesterday I created two Churchill Downs wicker spires for centerpieces for the banquet table.

I will try to remember to get pictures. There will be a contest for best hat that I am judging with a prize for the winner. I really enjoy party planning very much. My next career perhaps - LOL.
