I was completely absorbed last night watching Saturday Night Live's 50th Anniversary Special. Did any of you see it? I loved every minute of the almost three and a half hours. It was so wonderful seeing dozens of past hosts and cast members. I have been following the show since its inception!
Some of my favorite moments were the musical guests. Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter started the show performing a moving duet of "Homeward Bound." Paul McCartney who looked and sounded fabulous ended the show with a wonderful medley "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" with the entire audience on their feet and singing along. 82 and he still brings down the house.
Everyone gathered on stage at the end, as always, with Laraine Newman and Jane Curtin, two of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players, holding up a portrait of original cast member Gilda Radner, who died in 1989. An amazing night. You can catch lots of clips on YouTube if you missed it.
Phil Hartman. It's next to impossible to choose a favorite, but if I had to, it would be he. As you know, he's deceased. Overall, it was a great show -- we're watching the second half of the second show this evening.
ReplyDeleteI could never choose - Kate McKinnon, Chevy Chase, Norm MacDonald, Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Dana Carvey, Gilda Radner, Will Ferrell, and of course Phil Hartman. Bowen Yang is brilliant and soon to be on my list.
DeleteStarted watching SNL in its first season while living in married student housing. It was a terrific walk down memory lane for sure although Paul McCartney’s voice is not what it used to be but at 82 whose is?
ReplyDeleteIt was the reason I came home early on Saturday night when I was young.
