January Traditions

The Adoration of the Magi by Edward Byrne - Jones

Today is the Epiphany, also called Three Kings' Day, marking the day when the three kings or "wise men" came to see the baby Jesus in Bethlehem and proclaim him king. So I plan to spend the day taking down my Christmas trees and decorations, a tradition for many people. It always makes me a little sad - I absolutely adore homes decorated for the holidays. Oh well, until next year. I'm glad I am not in D.C. where 10 to 12 inches of snow is predicted today. It will be a high of 76 degrees here today. I have not had the heat on once this winter.

Then I will turn my attention to my other January tradition of freshening up all my china cabinets, linen closets, and such. I'll do some posts this month on my cleaning and organizing tips.

But this week my goal is to have all my Christmas things nicely packed away for another year. It's a lot more fun putting it up than taking it down!

January is a great time though to find Christmas decor at deep discounts. I have been looking for this discontinued sold out Pottery Barn gold sailboat tree topper for ages and I just found one on eBay brand new in the box. It is all ready for next year.

Did you know that this coming Friday is National Quitters Day? With every new year comes New Year's resolutions. Research shows that most of us don't make it past the second Friday of January without breaking our resolutions, otherwise known as National Quitters Day.

At the wine tasting I attended on Saturday, one couple was observing Dry January, another new tradition of not drinking the entire month. But why go to a wine tasting? LOL. An odd choice.
