Hurricane Helene

NOAA - Hurricane Helene

All is well here at CCC. My pups, my home, and I are all fine. It was a long day however. Helene was a massive storm and pushed an enormous amount of water with storm surge the biggest issue. There is catastrophic flooding in many places. Thousands and thousands of people's homes are flooded with many feet of water.

Storm surge is not rainwater - it is the wind pushing seawater causing an abnormal rise in seawater. Some neighborhoods had a storm surge of ten feet and more! The Big Bend of Florida had an unsurvivable storm surge of 20 feet!!!! We had very little rain here where I live - much of the day it was sunny with tropical force winds at the same time - totally crazy. I dealt with scary winds of up to 70 miles per hour for hours!

I hope you will consider contributing to the American Red Cross. Million of people are impacted by this hurricane in many states  - Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee. You can donate here. My heart goes out to those affected by this. And this storm is sill continuing as it moves north.

On a happier note, my favorite Target line Studio McGee is having a 20% off Target Circle sale online only. Many items I have posted about are on sale. Free shipping with $35 orders. Shop the sale here.

  1. It's a relief to know you are out from under. Unharmed. These last few days have been gut wrenching. Several friends not so lucky. I'll be focusing my donations to them. So sad for Florida. It's not over yet. Now comes the hard part. Cleanup.

  2. So glad to hear you and the pups are okay.! We are in Upstate SC which was hit hard, already notified it will be days before power is restored. There are trees down everywhere. We live in the woods, and I prayed all night a tree would not crash through our house. I was supposed to have a 5 hour back surgery yesterday that got canceled, thank goodness!

    2. Furman looks pretty badly flooded on the news. The football game tomorrow is canceled. Greenville has flooding along the Reedy, lots of trees down, no power. We are doing ok, got the generator going and I finally got coffee! I am not hearty pioneer stock…I need coffee and a blow dryer!

  4. Thank you for this post, Beth. The Red Cross is a wonderful organization. I'm relieved to hear that you and your pups are ok. It has to be terrifying a devastating for those who experience this. Every year when this happens I sweat bullets worrying about my family in Tampa/St. Pete. God bless you.
