Chinoiserie High Tea

Fortnum & Mason Camellia Tea Collection

Have you been to Fortnum & Mason in London? One of my favorite things when my daughter Kate was growing up was going to high tea.

Some of my favorites - The Palm Court at the Ritz in London, The Plaza in New York, The Four Seasons in Georgetown, The Ritz Carlton at Tysons Galleria, The Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, and Keswick Hall in Charlottesville.

Williams Sonoma's new elegant Camellia collection is inspired by the original hand-painted wallpaper in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon at Fortnum & Mason. You can have high tea at home or really elevate your tea on your breakfast tray. I don't drink coffee and love tea, so this is right up my alley. And you don't even have to cross the pond.

This collection is stunning. I love these pagoda tea tins. These could be refilled and kept forever.

  1. Oh my....Is it Christmas morning? Must be.Tea at F & M. What a treat this collection is. One of each please. Part of Christmas mornings was always beautiful tea tins from F & M. Some survived and still refilled with wonderful teas. Many miles from a tea room, I now invite friends and try to reproduce the same festive, very special feeling that only an afternoon tea can bring. Thanks Beth for a wonderful Saturday morning. Maybe Iced Tea today. Too hot for a hot brew.

    1. I grew up going to the Deer Path Inn with my family to celebrate birthdays and special occasions - so many wonderful memories.

  3. Not to be pedantic, but “afternoon tea” is what is offered in London Hotels. “high tea” is what working class families call their evening meal.

    1. True in England, but here in the United States during the 1990s, the grand hotels rebranded afternoon tea as high tea with elaborate offerings like French Champagne, caviar, smoked salmon, strawberries with Grand Marnier, and the like. The terms afternoon tea and high tea are used interchangeably in the United States.

  4. This is so very pretty, and afternoon tea is one of my favorite things in the world. I have had our version of high tea in many beautiful hotels, mostly on the west coast, but the afternoon tea at The Ritz's Palm Court in London, is positively swoon worthy. I would perfectly happy having two meals a day; brunch and afternoon tea.
