Mulch Madness

Beacham and Company

March Madness is over, but now we have Mulch Madness! Did you know that this is the time of year for mulch wars? This is when the home improvement stores go mano a mano with their lowest prices of the year on mulch starting around Easter.

I started using black shredded hardwoood mulch in my garden about ten years ago and love it. I love the way it looks with white houses like mine. I have started a bit of a black mulch trend where I live.

The mulch my gardeners use is terrible and they want $8 a bag to buy it and lay it. Meanwhile, Lowe's has wonderful bagged hardwood mulch right now for $2 a bag - and with my Lowe's credit card it comes out to $1.90 a bag! So I told my gardener what to do with his mulch and Lowe's is delivering 75 bags to my driveway this morning.

This sale is also on brown and red mulch and ends on April 17th. This is half price and a great deal. Grab some this weekend or have it delivered.

The weather will be perfect here this weekend and I am looking forward to spending time in the garden. I will be stylishly attired of course in one of my J.Crew denim dresses and a pair of my Smith and Hawken rubber gardening boots.

"We must get gardening courses into all the schools, not as an extracurricular activity, but as one of the basics. We need people in this world who know the value of growing things. I consider it impossible to have enough interests in life. If you're not interested, you're not interesting. And gardeners are by nature interested." C.Z. Guest

Enjoy your weekend.

  1. I'm with you re black mulch. I've always used black because it looks stunning with everything -- especially emerald green grass, boxwoods & white flowers. Have a wonderful day gardening.💚
