Today is the Epiphany and it's also going to be a rare rainy day here in South Florida. So it's a perfect day for me to take down my Christmas decorations.
I was brought up that you leave the tree up until the Epiphany. I have always loved the tradition of it and that it extends the season.
What is this tradition?
Christian tradition says you should take down the tree on the 12th night of Christmas, also known as the Eve of Epiphany. The Eve of Epiphany, also called Three Kings' Day, marks the day when the three kings or "wise men" came to see the baby Jesus in Bethlehem and proclaimed him king. Epiphany falls on January 6th.
Last year I invested in nice canvas containers for my Christmas trees, wreaths, and ornaments, so I do find that makes the project much easier than miscellaneous cardboards boxes and such.
If you are in need of upgrading your Christmas storage, here is were I got all of mine. Like these -

Enjoy your day, however you will be spending it. It looks like most of the East Coast will having rain or snow today, so stay dry and safe.
Twelfth Night is also the beginning of Mardi Gras season in New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteEpiphany for me too. I’m always the last one in my neighborhood to remove Christmas decor, but I don’t care because I enjoy the leisurely lull after the 25th when I can just relax into the season. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteEpiphany in my home too. After all was put away, we would celebrate my parents anniversary. They were married for fifty nine years. Joyous!
ReplyDeleteWe take our decorations down the day after the Epiphany. We always have “A Little Christmas Party “ on the Epiphany. People are so busy before Christmas ,this gives us a chance to still share our decorations before they are taken down.
