With the craze over American Farmhouse style the last decade, we have all seen a lot of shiplap. It's so nice to see it used in a fresh way. Here shiplap is hung vertically adding even more drama to the ceiling height in this island entryway.
Amanda Lindroth is without question one of my favorite interior designers. I love the shell sconces, painted floor, wicker pendant, rattan bench piled with blue and white pillows, and the oversized tassel trompe l'oeil mirror. The palms in white painted baskets are wonderful. Note the rope knot door stop.
Amanda's book Island Hopping is one of my all time favorite interior design books and anyone who loves the easy breezy sun-kissed island look should own it. It has been re-released with 16 new pages.

We have a farm with a house we built 16 years ago. At the time we built it, ship lap was not yet a thing. We did what we call "board walls", remembering the walls of the sleeping porch of my grandparent's early 1920s Sear Kit Built farmhouse. Much to my surprise, these same kind of walls, now called "ship lap" became a thing. We love our board walls as we think they give our house character. For us, they are not a trend, but a old way of doing walls which I remember from my grandparent's house.

DeleteI love this grouping, it's sooo me! Our "beach shack" is a 1920s carriage house that was falling down from neglect and termites. When we rebuilt it we did most of the walls and ceiling in cypress boards—horizontal and whitewashed. That was a job!——Shanna

DeleteIt's a wonderful entry hall. I love Amanda Lindroth's style too. I first heard of her on your blog, then I purchased her book and began following her online store. In fact, I have a HUGE number of books sitting in my Amazon cart, many of which you recommended. If I bought them all, I would have an entirely new library!
