Pastels

Matters of Style

I love these rooms and especially the color palette - the blues of the ceilings, fringed velvet sofa, and Chinese Chippendale chairs, the greens of the console table, chair, sofa pillows, and art, and the lovely coral and blue rug.

All pastels work beautifully together. My favorite piece is the zebra - and a pop of black always helps to ground a space. I also love the mid century modern glass flower sputnik chandelier. Both the zebra and the chandelier are very collectible vintage pieces.

It's a very interesting idea to keep the walls neutral and use blue on the ceilings. Blue on the ceiling is of course very Southern and although it was originally just used on porches (Haint Blue), blue ceilings are now used anywhere in the house. I'm not sure what the wall paint color is, but it reminds me of Benjamin Moore Classic Gray #1548 that I used on my walls. It changes from white to gray to greige to green depending on the room, exposure, light, and time of day.

I would love to find a zebra for my home. Here are vintage zebras in a room I adore by Amanda Lindroth.

  2. My mom has always had the faintest of blue ceilings in her home and they’re gorgeous. It’s the fifth wall!

  3. Agreed! These rooms are gorgeous! I have been coveting a zebra for ages but still no luck (that I can afford!)....apparently they come at a premium! oh well....the hunt is half the fun! Have a marvelous weekend, Beth!

    1. I want a large vintage zebra and they are very pricey.

  4. The ceiling is the fifth wall, and when it's neglected, things always look forlorn to me. I've never understood this. Giving the ceiling just as much consideration as the four walls can really make a room. Just look at the ceiling just beyond the entry hall. I love the zebra too.

You've featured that Amanda Lindroth room before, Beth, and it's just wonderful. I don't usually care for large pieces of furniture in front of a window. It always feels claustrophobic to me, but for whatever reason, this works. I would love to see what the opposite side of the room looks like.

    1. The room is long and narrow and I think the sectional in front of the window makes it feel wider.
