Chinoiserie Chic Turns Thirteen

Ruthie Sommers

Chinoiserie Chic has entered its teen years! This picture was my very first post on Chinoiserie Chic back in May of 2009. I just realized that I have reached thirteen years of writing Chinoiserie Chic. The term "chinoiserie chic" did not even exist before I coined it. I have published over 5,300 posts.

To think about the changes in my life over this 13 year period of time is astounding (to me). I have lived through being the caregiver to my dearest friend who I lost to cancer, the sudden death of my husband, the loss of three beloved dogs - my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and my Tibetan Spaniel, selling a house I loved and leaving a city I loved and family and friends I loved, and then moving to Florida just before the pandemic and ending up living with a monster in an abusive relationship. Then moving again (escaping) to my new home.

But here I am in Venice, Florida, in a beautiful home with my two cherished Japanese Chins, single, incredibly happy, writing this blog and doing interior design. Life could not be better. I pinch myself every day that I am living this beautiful life.

Thank you to all who are followers of Chinoiserie Chic. Some of you have been with me from the beginning, others have joined along the way. I am delighted to have a growing group of Floridian followers too.

If you do not already have my daily posts delivered to your email box, just fill in the box in the sidebar. Thank you again for your support and for joining me on this crazy journey.

  10. Beth, I've been with you from the beginning, loving that you shared your life as well as your design inspiration with us. There were many parallels to my life, which made your blog even more precious to me. You are my morning pick me up & reward after my exercises & what I look forward to reading as I have my coffee. You set the tone for my day. You are, indeed, a survivor & an inspiration. I love your suggestions for so many lovely things & have ordered many & been pleased with each thing that you suggested. I think of you as my on-line friend! God Bless!

  13. Happy Blogversary! I think I have been reading you since around 2011. I know I have had your kitchen stools on my Pinterest boards for many years. I, too, look forward to your posts every day. It is so interesting you now live so close, at least for part of the year. We are getting ready to go back north in a few days. I do hope we can meet in person upon my return in January. Have a wonderful summer! Big hugs!
