A Wicker Menagerie @ CCC

CCC

Do you spot the newest member of my menagerie? After getting my hair done in downtown Sarasota yesterday, I ran into the HomeGoods on Bee Ridge Road (for the local peeps) and spotted this monkey. I have been wanting a Mario Lopez Torres rattan animal for a while.

Here below is a Mario Lopez Torres monkey currently for sale.

Mario Lopez Torres

The Torres one is 16" tall, the price is $1,200 and it was hand-woven in the Philippines.

Mine is 24" tall, was $130 and was hand-woven in the Philippines.

Is it me, or does the tail on the Torres one look more like a giant phallus? LOL - I crack myself up sometimes. And his face looks mean too.

The monkey joins my wicker snail table, a rattan turtle beverage cooler, and two wicker elephant tables. If you recall, I recently scored this blue and white monkey at the Venice HomeGoods.

Venice is back to being absolutely perfect - the snowbirds have flown north and the roads, stores, and restaurants are much quieter and the weather is wonderful.

  1. You are sooooo right about that monkey! I saw them at Circa Who in WPB recently...so many of them were cute but that one was scary, Lol.

    1. That is funny - I bet he was even scarier in person.

  2. Love it. My grandmother had a wicker monkey in her sunroom. Also handwoven in the Philippines.

    1. My parents lived in the Philippines post WWII and brought back a lot of bamboo furniture and such.

  3. Ohh BETH,
LOL!! THAT is the first thing that came to mind when I first laid my eyes on the Torres Monkey!! I do love his work but this one is a bit ODD instead of whimsical! I have a vintage Torres Monkey lamp and he is the celebrity on my home. Guest LOVE him. Anyhoo...Thanks for making my day!

  4. WOW! Another outstanding find! I like your monkey much better. And your blue & white piece is divine!. I'll check my closest HomeGoods but it is likely long gone, although you never know the timing of shipment arrival. Thank you!
