Spring Flowers & Blue and White Chinese Porcelain

You're Invited: Classic, Elegant Entertaining by Stephanie Booth Shafran

I came across this wonderful picture of a loggia with blue and white Chinese porcelain filled with some of my favorite Spring flowers - viburnum, hydrangeas, and lilacs. There are also tulips, but tulips are not favorite cut flowers of mine. The stems keep growing in water and I think they look messy and crazy after the first day or so - LOL.

This book looks like it has lots of inspiration on flower arranging and table settings with blue and white and I might have to add it to my library. One of my greatest joys now is having the time to read more and I adore books on interior design, gardening, and entertaining.

"In her first book, noted hostess Stephanie Booth Shafran shares her secrets for planning and giving brilliantly executed parties at home.

Taking at-home entertaining to an entirely new level, sophisticated L.A. hostess Stephanie Booth Shafran--recently named by the Salonniere as one of the top hostesses in Los Angeles--has a gift for celebration. From the table settings to the decor to the color-coordinated menus, every party she hosts showcases a myriad of inspired elements. In her first book, she shows readers how to set the stage for eight parties, from an elegant housewarming in her Jeffrey Bilhuber-decorated home to a classic California pool party to a festive Christmas brunch. She also shares advice on palette creation--blue and white for a ladies' charity luncheon, and deep burgundies for a gentleman's wine and cigar party. Each chapter ends with tips for that theme, whether it is entertaining alfresco or having parties for a charitable purpose. Shafran also includes a guide to her party essentials: inspiration, invitations, flowers, tablescape, linens, seating, the bar, and select recipes."

I love Juliska china - it has become such a classic. These Delft Party Plates would be a great way to start or add to a collection.

I am putting the finishing touches on my garage today and it will be done. It is a very liberating feeling!

  1. The loggia is is lovely, but to me, the loveliest part of it is the view to the outside. It looks like a wonderful book that not only has beautiful photographs, but covers all the bases. (Love the quote by Elsie de Wolfe.)

  2. To stop tulips from growing after they're cut, stick a needle through the top of the stem just below the flower.

  3. I really like that in almost every picture, there is a single color in each vase - love that look. Of course, a well done bouquet is wonderful, but the exuberance of a huge group of one flower is my favorite.

    1. I agree, I am not a huge fan of mixed bouquets.
