Garage Organization

Apartment Therapy

This week I worked more on my garage organization, and it is so empty I started thinking about getting a second car. I would keep my Audi, but get a small fun car for running around doing errands and for the beach. The news reports are true about dealerships having no inventory. In fact, the business model has changed with some manufacturers where you order your car as opposed to buying it off the lot. I am thinking about a BMW, and that is the case with it, for example. I am in no rush, and I'll get exactly what I want.

My project for this weekend is to continue organizing my garage, especially all of my gardening tools and such which is most of what is in the garage now. I love this inspiration photo above.

I was thinking a small bench would be great for putting gardening boots on and taking them off. This one would be perfect. This is from the same collection as those wonderful rattan counter stools I got for my kitchen island. Click on the captions to link.

This outdoor bench is only $80 when you apply the coupon!

I love this wicker Agrarian Tool Basket.

I also love those white bins in my inspiration photo above and have been looking for something like them for mulch, fertilizer, and potting soil. These enameled galvanized steel bins come in lots of colors and get great reviews.

Isn't this copper gardening trug gorgeous?

I have posted before about all of my topiaries in my garden - these topiary shears are British, award winning, amazing, and crazy cheap. I couldn't garden without them.

  1. Good Morning :) You made me chuckle out loud with your comment of Cleaning up the garage left you with so much space you're thinkin' of getting another car - Ha, ha, ha :)

    1. I am serious. Nature abhors a vacuum.

    2. You could get a bicycle. A cute bamboo and wicker one!

  2. You could get a Jolly, a la Amanda Lindroth, or I could see you in a Vespa, Beth. That would be very cool, and wouldn't take up as much space in the garage. I know you are particular about your hair, but for safety's sake, please get a helmet! Then you can get a sidecar or a some sort of special safe seat for the pups.

    1. No Vespa for me. Between tourists and older people, we would get killed. Jolly's are impossible to find and cost a fortune. There were not that many made. I have pretty much decided on a 2 Series BMW. I had a powder blue one long ago. I only drive German cars.

    2. Too bad. You are missing the unmitigated joy of driving a Tesla! The model 3 is to die for, it's performance astonishing (you will leave all the German cars in the dust), AND it is the safest car on the road. In any class. We started w/one, keeping our BMW convertible. After the Tesla, nobody drove the BMW. Replaced it w/another Tesla and never looked back (or pumped gas or had an oil change) In four years!

    3. Tesla is now near the bottom of Consumer Reports annual brand rankings weighed down by poorly received design changes and serious reliability issues. It fell 7 spots in the last rankings down to 23rd out of 32!!! BMW ranks THIRD. J.D. Power ranks it 30th out of 33 on dependability. I could go on.

  3. I think the model of ordering a new car is here to stay. We had to do that with our latest car which we ordered and received about 8 months ago. Now, we're ready for another and it's the same story---custom orders only--no inventory on the lot. I'm off to look at your favorite--the 2 Series BMW.

    1. I prefer ordering actually. The 2 Series is loosely modeled after the 2002 BMW (2002 is the Model, not the Year). I loved that car. It is small and fun and getting great reviews.

  4. The car I would love to have now, would be the high end Tesla. I know - it's California's "flavor of the month" car. (California is so into itself, they hardly know that any other place on the planet exists. I feel that, as a native Californian, I'm allowed to poke fun of CA and say that!) I was never that impressed with them, until I rode in one, and OMG, it was fabulous! One problem with having an all electric car is that you have to install a charging station in your garage. (Not sure how much that would cost, but then you would be adding to your monthly power/utility bill, which is already ridiculously expensive here.) Then there are other dilemmas, such as, one cannot drive much further than 300 or 400 miles before it has to be recharged. Convertibles are sexy and fun, but I once rolled my car and was lucky enough to walk away, so I feel that I would be courting fate with one of those! I'll have to check out the BMW 2 Series.

    1. I was invited to a Tesla cocktail party and drove the expensive one and I was not impressed at all. Luckily the food and booze were great. But I wouldn't drive it if were free. And Elon Musk is nuts. The cheaper Tesla the 3 is supposed to be better.

  5. Ordering directly to get what you want has apparently come full circle - this was the only way to get a car when I was a kid. The inventory is incredibly low right now, especially for electric cars. I just "settled" for a Mazda because it was nice and sitting on the lot. Unfortunately it wasn't red, and I want all my cars to be red. but now I actually love it, but if I hadn't accepted this one, it would have been a 3 month wait minimum.
