A Big Coverup

Frances Valentine

One trepidation I had about moving to Florida was my skin. I have seen so many people who move here and their skin gets brown and wrinkled and leathery. I have always taken really good care of my skin and I have great skin. One tip I have is Creme de la Mer Moisturizer that I have used forever. I used Erno Lazlo (Jackie Kennedy was a devotee) in my twenties and then moved on to La Mer. It is worth every penny.

But wearing a sun hat is another critical element especially in places like Florida. (In addition to a good sunscreen and sunglasses). With its wide circular brim, it provides serious protection. It protects your face, your ears, and the back of your neck, all very common areas for squamous cell carcinoma, as well as your scalp and hair from the sun and the wind on a breezy day. Great for convertibles - every man here seems to drive the convertible sports car he always wanted - LOL. The wider the brim, the better.

I love that these are foldable and packable not only for travel, but for sticking in my handbag or beach bag. Also great for boating and golfing. The only problem is deciding on a color! These will be great to mix and match with my collection of Frances Valentine caftans too. These were sold out and have just restocked. They get great reviews - the green is their best seller.

  1. Good for you for protecting your skin from the sun. I was an esthetician for 20 years, and much of the damage to the appearance of skin that I saw has to do with external factors, which we have a great degree of control over, not always the normal aging process. Things such as exposure to harsh environmental factors - sun, harsh weather, pollution, smoking, extreme dieting and extremes in weight changes. Stay away from exposure to harsh elements and direct sun as much as possible. Wear sunscreen and/or physical barriers, such as clothes and hats, don't diet strenuously or let your weight yoyo, stay hydrated, and don't smoke.
