Chaneling Mario Buatta @ CCC

CCC

Welcome to Casa Chinoiserie Chic. Yesterday I had a Eureka! moment. Do you see the white wicker chaise? That was in my daughter's nursery 37 years ago with a Laura Ashley pink and white ticking stripe cushion. When we moved to a new home when she was a teenager, it ended up in my sun room with the cushion recovered in a Mario Buatta fabric called Evelyn with a skirted table in the same Mario Buatta fabric.

When I moved to Florida, I brought both with me. I still love the fabric so much. The chaise has been in my guest bedroom and the tableskirt stored because I couldn't decide what to do with them. Yesterday I had the idea to try both in my great room.

I love them there. With its chinoiserie, pastel palette, and Mario Buatta floral chintz, it brought to mind this Mario Buatta living room I have always loved.

Here are some more pictures of my great room. I think it's feeling very Palm Beach. I love that it is filled with much loved pieces from my life with just a few new additions.

My plan today is to try out the chaise with a new gardening book that arrived yesterday.

  5. This just goes to prove that you should never give up things that you really love, even if they don't quite fit into your present space. Often they can be reinvented or repurposed into something else that is wonderful.

Mario Buatta is my absolute favorite decorator. I was fortunate to have met him once when I attended one of his lectures at the San Francisco Fall Antiques Show. He was charming and delightful.

I happen to LOVE white wicker. I think it looks so pretty and fresh, especially outdoors with lots of green in the garden.

Christina took the words right out of my mouth: What a happy space! You must be thrilled with it, Beth, and you should be.

    1. Thanks so much. Years ago the San Francisco Antiques Show contacted me about naming the show Chinoiserie Chic and asked my permission and offered me VIP passes to everything. I was unable to go because of other commitments. I did meet Mario Buatta in DC when he was working on White House projects. A lovely man.
