Tropical Red and Green

Amanda Lindroth

Such an interesting space by Amanda Lindroth in this Palm Beach home. Red and green are not normally colors I associate with tropical decor (a rare exception being Alessandra Branca who uses her signature red in their Bahamian retreat).

Here red and white striped curtains and oversized red cotton pendant shades (there are two more shades out of view) add drama. The Mexican tiles are wonderful. The abstract art adds a modern touch and the Saarinen tulip table a mid century element. I like the wicker wall planter and wicker accessories from her collection. The ceiling is fantastic.

I think the red and green works for me because with the thin red and white stripes of the curtains, they read more pink than red, and pink and green is of course a classic Palm Beach color palette.

I so want a corner banquette. The obvious spot in my home is the breakfast room, but the windows are too low on one side for it to work. I am not a fan when the banquette blocks part of the window. I am still contemplating this.

Enjoy your long weekend.

  1. Could you do one side of the banquette with a back and the other side without a back...just the bench?

  2. Hmmm...I love the draperies, the red pendant light fixture and the chairs, but something in this room seems a bit off, and off balance to me. Maybe it's the corner banquette, which just doesn't feel right for this space, and I find the ceiling to be too rustic - (I suppose that's just a matter of personal preference). From the photograph, it appears to be a long narrow room. It obviously has high ceilings which always gives a room a more spacious feeling, but it just feels too closed in to me. But I'm not Amanda Lindroth, and don't have her design expertise, so maybe I'm missing something. Interesting one's emotional and psychological response to a space.

    1. It's too heavy on the left. Either the banquette should fill the back wall or there should be something more substantial than that dinky floor lamp to fill the right corner.
