The wicker elephant stand/table/stool is an iconic chinoiserie piece that is very collectible. Nice vintage ones have gotten harder to find and go for very high prices on places like Chairish and 1stDibs. I really like them spray painted in fun colors and it's so easy to do. A perfect DIY anyone can handle. First, some inspiration.

As I said, vintage ones are often several hundred dollars plus shipping. They are priced on 1stDibs for up to $2,000 which is insanity. I have also found that unpainted natural vintage ones may have been stored in basements or attics and can smell musty which is very hard/impossible to get rid of.
I have found a wonderful new one. This guy is $178 with free shipping. The gray is a neutral that would work in many homes, but he would also be wonderful in a fun color with a couple cans of spray Rustoleum.
If you are really motivated, go for this! Isn't this fabulous?

Oh, what fun!
ReplyDeleteI love all the great colors!
DeleteWhat a great find. I did see that the gray also comes in a natural rattan color, but is currently out of stock.
ReplyDeleteI purposely chose the gray because the post was about painting the wicker elephant in fun colors so the base color is not important. The natural is more expensive, out of stock, and I prefer the natural in vintage that has a nice patina.
