This space is probably now my favorite in my Florida home. It was originally an undersized dining area with an ugly brown mirror and a clunky chandelier.

I wanted a large dining table to seat eight for dinner parties and decided to relocate the dining room into the great room.
It has turned into a whimsical space with faux palm trees, flamingos, and oversized ginger jars. A fantastical Florida fantasy.
As you can see, I hung my wonderful Ralph Lauren gold leaf pagoda chandelier there. My handyman took the old chandelier and spray painted it hot pink and hung it in their garden from a large tree - great recycling!
So it is great flex space. It is easily convertible for dining if an additional table and chairs are needed and will also be a perfect space to set up a bar for a cocktail party.
My painter hand gold leafed the mirror and painted gold leaf fronds in the panels below.

It's also very pretty at night.

So my point is to have fun with your home - make it work for you. Don't be bound by what a room is called. It can be anything you like. Design a home you love and a life you love.
Love this. Sensing a bit of a Tony Duquette vibe here.
ReplyDeleteThanks - I was going to say I was channeling Tony Duquette, but thought it might sound presumptuous. I appreciate the reference.
DeleteYour home is so whimsical, fun, happy, and joyous - filled with joie de vivre. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It makes me very happy.
Delete"She designed a life she loved." You wrote the book.

DeleteI changed my rooms around, too, to better suit me. My small dining room is now my sitting room and my family room is now my formal dining, so I can seat 12. Good call on your part!
ReplyDeleteExactly - rethink your space.
DeleteThe RL pagoda chandelier is wonderful, and I love your needlepoint alligator pillow.
ReplyDeleteThanks - the pillow is a limited edition Izod for Jonathan Adler. Perfect for Florida.
DeleteWhat a fun post--and I agree--use your house in a way that works for you! My favorite houses have rooms that could be used in multiple ways.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
