The owners of this Greenwich, Connecticut home were poised to remove the solarium from their Georgian Colonial, when their interior designer thought of reimagining it as a bar solarium. My idea of heaven.
She lacquered everything that didn't move in a gorgeous high gloss emerald green and added octagonal marble floors. The fabric on the slipper chairs is a favorite of mine by Manuel Canovas named Pagoda. The fabric on the banquettes is by Hill Brown.

For lovers of chinoiserie, green lacquered walls are the most wonderful backdrop for blue and white Chinese porcelain and for chinoiserie fabrics.
I am not sure what paint color was used here, but I really like Benjamin Moore Rainforest Foliage #2040-10 and it is used a lot by interior designers.

Emerald green ginger jars are another pretty idea - gorgeous with the white coral.

And for Hurricane Elsa news here. I made it through my first hurricane unscathed. There is not a blade of grass out of place in the garden. It was quite dramatic, but homes and gardens here are made to withstand it. The hurricane pretty much fell apart just before reaching here. Sarasota has not been the bull's eye for a major hurricane since records began in 1871. Legend has it we are built on ancient Native American burial grounds.
Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteFabulous for sure.
DeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe and that your gorgeous property is untouched. That room is sensational. Beyond sensational really. Love seeing all these ideas from talented designers. Inspires me to think more creatively. And green has always been my favorite color. Thanks for posting it.
It is a sensational room. Emerald green should be used more as well as high gloss paint.
DeleteHigh gloss paint like that = $$$$$$$
DeleteNot at all - there are great high gloss paints on the market at the same price give or take as any other sheen.
DeleteThose fabrics! Wow!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous - the Manuel Canovas is such a great pattern.
DeleteIt's all pretty darn fabulous! Love your suggestion for a cocktail to enjoy in this room, +recipe! Excellent post, Beth.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I love both Absinthe and Champagne and this couldn't be easier.
DeleteLove the lacquered green for drama! We only had one small branch of our jujube fruit tree break off in the storm.
ReplyDeleteGreat news - I hope the rest of hurricane season is as kind.
DeleteOMG, an interior designer after my own heart! Everything about this room is just so glamorous. I love everything about it. Thank you, Beth, for noting the fabrics. Manuel Canovas is one of my favorite fabric designers. I once took a class from an interior designer here in San Francisco. She talked about having a wall painted a deep, lacquered green and she used an automotive paint. I didn't think that could be done with all of the EPA laws, but apparently it can.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of the Absinthe Hemmingway. In fact, I have never tried absinthe, but I do love champagne, so I guess I will have to give it a go.
Glad you made it through the hurricane unscathed. I have family in the Tampa/St.Pete area and have not heard from them yet, so I'm a bit concerned. (You may very well be living on ancient Native American burial grounds!)
Fabulous post. Thank you so much.
The automotive paint is a terrible idea and I would hate for anyone to try this. It is loaded with very dangerous chemicals and should never be used indoors, plus it must be sprayed on and it's expensive. There are excellent safe high gloss paints designed for indoors. Absinthe is wonderful and has a very sexy history and was banned for decades.
DeleteSo glad to learn you are safe and sound! That room is so gorgeous I can barely catch my breath! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks. My first hurricane!
DeleteHi Beth, I have used the Benjamin Moore brand of High Gloss paint and it doesn't give that true dee lacquered look. I've read that the Fine Paints of Europe work well but they are $$$ and difficult to use. Any other ideas for getting that shiny baby grand piano gloss?
ReplyDeleteIf you can actually find someone who does true lacquer, can afford the astronomical cost, and don't mind toxic fumes, true lacquer is indeed beautiful. But 90% of what you see in magazines today with high gloss walls are done with BM or Hollandlac. I use both and the results are great. Depending on the color, more coats may be necessary.
