Beachy Chinoiserie

Phoebe Howard

This is a wonderful space. I love the hexagonal rattan stools/side tables, the director's chair, the single monstera leaf in a vase, and especially that umbrella stand - more specifically, a white faux bamboo umbrella stand filled with white golf umbrellas. I might be copying that!

I have a bit of a thing for umbrellas and I don't know why. I have at least a dozen. My favorite ones are my collection of Scalamandre Zebras.

  1. I found that exact same umbrella stand at an estate sale recently and am dreaming about using it for a fabulous flower arrangement!

    1. I am jealous. Many vintage ones do tend to be smaller and are perfect as vases.

  2. I love the rattan stools/tables! You may find that umbrellas are a waste of time here in Florida. It only rains for 5 minutes at a time. I have some fabulous umbrellas that just stay in the side pockets of my car, but they're not fabulous enough for me to pray for rain. :-)

    1. I just like the looks of umbrellas. I didn't need a dozen umbrellas in NOVA either. I have actually been living here for a year and a half now. Time flies.

  3. Check out Pasotti Umbrelli. Maybe too fancy for casual Florida, but beautiful umbrellas, nevertheless. What about a sun umbrella, or a parasol, to carry around on sunny Florida days? Not the kind Scarlet O'Hara would carry, but I've seen some pretty stylish ones.

I love the big golf umbrellas. They remind me a bit of the big umbrellas that door men have at fancy hotels and apartment buildings.

  5. I love this simple gorgeous design! I love umbrellas as well & the Scalamandre Zebras. Sadly, my small red collapsible one broke (the interior workings were made of plastic) & I could find no way to repair it, after much time online, searching. The last time I picked it up to look at it yet again, it fell into about 50 tiny mechanical pieces & I had to surrender. I'm still sad today but do have one large one remaining. Now to head over to Pasotti to browse...I am sure I am in for a treat!

    1. That's a shame. I have three of the Scalamadre Zebras umbrellas, but just use them for decoration - they will last forever - LOL.
