Weekend Fun

Danielle Rollins

Bike riding is huge in my gated community. It seems very safe as well with very limited traffic at slow speeds. I have decided to get a bicycle and started researching. Of course I have fallen in love with a vintage wicker bike like this, but boy are they $$$. A nice one is about $2,000.

And my Bartesian arrived yesterday and I inaugurated it with a Jalapeño Lime Shrub to which I added fresh jalapeño slices. It is lime juice and jalapeño and apple cider vinegar and it was fantastic. I ordered a second Bartesian for the lanai for entertaining.

I spent the day yesterday in the garden - my Brugmansias have all started blooming and they are gorgeous!

  1. Love your posts!!! I’ve been getting your posts for awhile! Just be careful if you have pets that like to eat things in your yard. That plant, as beautiful as it is, can be highly toxic to pets.

    1. Thanks, I am aware about Brugmansia and my pups are never off leash or unattended.

  2. Love, LOVE the bamboo bike! Wish they had it in metal that looked like faux bamboo (like your bar stools) but you know that too, would cost an arm and a leg. In the meantime, the Huffy 24" at Walmart is absolutely adorable and only $148. It's something I wanted for aa long time. Pink, or mint green. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Huffy-24-Nel-Lusso-Girls-Cruiser-Bike-Mint-Green/797491763?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222222137084616&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=e&wl1=s&wl2=c&wl3=74904298032620&wl4=pla-4578503867879245&wl5=&wl6=&wl7=&%20wl10=Walmart&wl12=797491763_0&wl14=new%20retro%20bikes%20sale&veh=sem&msclkid=a6c12158ea3b1b6220da415cb1eee4d4

Brugmansia is absolutely magical. I first laid eyes on it on the Amalfi coast and vowed to have it one day no matter what. One of the draws of living in FL would be the climate and all the wonderful things you could grow there. CA is the same way but I am strictly an East coast girl. You are so lucky to be surrounded with things you love and love to do like gardening, and soon, entertaining.

    1. The bike is super cute. I rode a Huffy as a child. I too am an East coast girl, but I am not sure Florida counts unfortunately - LOL.

  3. Check out Brookland Bicycles. They have a cool vintage feel, but are not a lot of money. https://www.brooklynbicycleco.com/collections/step-through-bikes. They also have a Nantucket basket for the front in their accessories. (Mel)

  4. Locally, check out POP cycles - the owners are great. Not sure about the availability of bikes right now, I know suppliers were having a hard time meeting demand in the early days of covid.

    1. I know right where they are - I use to live right off of Clark Road - looks great. Thanks!

  5. The bike is fun, but looks more like a prop or almost an object of art. It seems the wicker might make it too fragile for serious bike riding.

Brugmansia - I believe the common name for them is Angels Trumpets - is beautiful, but poisonous.

I've wanted a bike for a long time, but I live in a residential area with lots of steep rolling hills. A Vespa might be a more appropriate choice for me!

    1. Yes, I don't think the wicker bike is for serious bike riding. The common name is Angel's Trumpet and I know it is poisonous. Many plants are including poinsettias.

  7. We got electric bikes ❤️❤️❤️❤️ them
You may find that cute vintage bike a lot harder to ride than you think! I hadn’t had a bike for 50 years and have loads of fun riding it.

  8. Maybe a Pashley? Pricey, but less than the wicker one. Brand new and favored by cyclists. The Brittania comes in pink.

  9. I am a big fan of the Townie Electra bike (not electric) and I have had one for 16 years. I even bought a second one for my beach house because I ride everyday. I live where there are hills so I wanted a beach style bike with gears. Since I am now in my 70s this bike is easy to balance because it has "flat foot technology" and is very comfortable and very cute.

    2. I have an Electra Cruiser which has foot brakes - totally low tech! I chose that option because of arthritis in my hands which makes hand brakes a problem. The Electra cruiser was $350. I also bought the Nantucket basket, even though it doesn't have very good reviews on durability. It's really cute, and I bought a blue and white flowered liner for it which really ups the charm factor. It's a lot of fun to ride around the neighborhood!

  10. Rei had some beautiful beach cruiser type bikes in the prettiest gelato shades- mint, turquoise, etc. You could always add a fab wicker basket to your handlebars!
