The Blue and White Dining Room

Bunny Williams

A lovely dining room with robin's egg blue walls and blue and white Chinese porcelain. Lots of warm browns keep it sophisticated. I love the idea of a large ginger jar (here a blue and white Chinese porcelain vase) on a pedestal. I had resisted doing it because I was living with a very clumsy person. No more! I can do this. I like the idea of a lucite one with a huge blue and white ginger jar. I should have grabbed one when Wisteria was going out of business. Darn.

  1. Beautiful room. Love the symmetry and scale, what a pleasure it would be to decorate it!
I also love the table. It reminds me why I am not too keen on skirted "functional" dining tables in general. They block so much interest and feel like shrouds whereas this one is airy and shows its beautiful lines. (On top of which you don't get you legs caught up in the fabric when you dine.)
This is the kind of room where you can have large scale porcelain pieces and they'd feel just right.

Not sure about the rug, but then Bunny rules so it has to be just me. I've changed my mind plenty of time upon some reflection.

    1. I got it too. Who knows what that means as they were taken over in 2018 by London based OKA.

  4. Beth ~ I JUST received an email yesterday that Wisteria is coming back in the Spring. I was elated ~ of course I’m sure you can find a good lucite or acrylic one on line or have your carpenter make one and then apply a little bespoke design like the painter did in your dining room. But I had to share the good news about Wisteria. Happy Holidays. TJF

    1. They are owned now by OKA so who knows what it will re-emerge like.

  5. It's a beautiful room, but the dining table seems too small for a room this size. At least it does to me, and I have to agree with Delta about the rug, but then I'm not Bunny Williams.

    1. The table looks perfect to me; it's just a large room. The rug I do not get.

    2. I don’t get it either. I don’t love it in the abstract, and it’s too much detail when you look at the level of visual texture in the ceiling.
