A Global Dining Room

Philipa de Abreu - Elle Decor

I wanted to share this very fun Lisbon dining room of Philipa de Abreu, a design consultant and brand ambassador for Tory Burch. The pink hand painted mural features tigers and a giraffe and is painted on canvas so it can be moved with her. (The apartment is a rental).

A blue and white ginger jar filled with tropical foliage and a petite blue and white Chinese lamp atop books adorn the sideboard. The table is set with faux bamboo flatware, a favorite of mine for large groups since place settings can be had very reasonably. I love scalloped anything - note the scalloped rug and scalloped dining chair cushions.

  1. I love how that all goes together so well.

  2. Not a fan of this room. To my eye it's a Chinoiserie decor fail. The murals look as if they belong in a child's room. With its beautiful ceiling moldings, this room deserves elegant hand painted Gracie wallpaper!

    1. It's not intended to be chinoiserie - the panels are Indian. It has a couple of chinoiserie elements. I adore the murals and think they are fresh and fun. The dining room is global, as I said, not chinoiserie.

  3. Absolutely marvelous, love everything about it.
With the panels and the rug in place, not to mention the architectural details and ceiling height, you can pretty much do anything with the rest. And the rest has really been done well.

    1. I did not mention that she has three children - I bet they think it's fun too. I love whimsy. I am getting to dislike very serious and predictable decorating.

    2. I agree. Serious and predictable get to be boring right away. In this room so many details to enjoy.
