Monkey Business

Herend Monkey

My daughter and I both collect monkeys and yesterday I added four to my menagerie from HomeGoods. I thought you might enjoy a little tour of my monkey house - but it smells great! Monkeys are quintessentially Chinoiserie and I love their whimsy and charm.

I learned that Florida has a growing population of Rhesus Macaque monkeys not native to Florida because in the 1930s and 1940s, the owner of a glass bottom boat business released a dozen of these monkeys to increase his tourism business and they now number in the hundreds.

  2. It’s always fun when you can add something new to a collection.
I love majolica and tole and am always on the lookout. Blackamoor anything, harder and harder to find. But SO much fun looking, for you never know.

    1. I love collections. Blackamoor has become quite controversial and banned from many shows.

  4. So fun! I decorated my son's nursery with rattan, monkeys, navy walls, ikat drapes. It was so Chinoiserie Chic.
He's 7 now and we just moved. He wants his room the same way though we did gray walls . I had to laugh when he said, "mom, no one is taking my monkeys or my foo dogs"!
