Chinoiserie Florida Style

My Master Bedroom

I love my master bedroom. Yesterday I styled the cocktail table with 100% HomeGoods finds. The sofa was in my living room in NOVA and the cocktail table was in the sitting room. The table is vintage Baker with a beautiful tortoiseshell base I found years ago in Georgetown in DC.

I just read the oddest thing. I Googled cocktail table versus coffee table, thinking the difference in terminology was probably regional. I have now read several articles saying that historically, a cocktail table was square or rectangular while a coffee table was round or oval. Who knew?

The wicker hurricane and candle are very Amanda Lindrothesque and were HG finds a couple months ago. Yesterday I was at the Venice HomeGoods and found this lovely blue and white ginger jar and wicker balls in natural and navy. I really like the way mixing Chinoiserie with wicker/rattan/cane gives a room a beachy/coastal/tropical/island vibe. I love that rattan and wicker have made a big comeback.

And I found a wallpaper hanging company - Eureka!!! I spoke with the owner yesterday. They sound great and very experienced. They were recommended highly by another interior designer. Not sure of the timing yet, but the good new is I am on their schedule. This area is going crazy in terms of popularity and patience is required. Venice has been discovered.

Speaking of my master bedroom, Amazon has announced its Amazon Prime Days as October 13 and 14 and last year they had great deals on the Samsung Frame TV that I am hoping to get for the master bedroom. Fingers crossed.

  1. Love your bedroom room sitting area vignette! I love the vintage Baker table. I have a large round one in my living room. So timeless, they are. And they fit in almost any room. Congrats on finding another wallpapar hanger. And another kudos for waiting until Amazon Prime Days to get your new Samsung TV.

  2. I love this staging! We also used our original living room sofa and coffee table in the master bedroom; they have a lot of history and make me smile every day.

    1. The funniest thing is that the Sarasota one was great and the Venice one was marginal and since I moved here the Venice one has gotten fantastic.

  7. What you are experiencing is just the beginning of the arrival of the Snowbirds. Venice was discovered years ago. My family, parents and sibling, have lived in Venice for many years and I have watched it go from a quiet little Old Florida town to the Venice of today. The beach used to have hotels and motels which have been either torn down or converted to condos. There were no high rise condos on the intra-coastal. There were no huge developments along Venice Ave. and up to just a couple of years ago there was almost nothing east of Jacaranda. Venice is still a lovely town, but will become quite crowded once the Northerners descend. And lastly, beware the traffic circles once the crowds arrive! Glad you found your happy place.

    1. The Snowbirds are not back yet and I have been in the area a year now. I am from DC so this does not seem busy to me. I love cities and lots to do personally. Every contractor I speak with says business is the best ever here which is great. I just think there are not enough experienced trades people here.

  8. Looks great. I have the same ginger jar! I got it at HG's sister store
TJ Maxx. I love it with my other blue and white which is mostly white on blue, it creates such a good contrast.

    1. Yes, I love that it is a blue background. My HG in Venice is a combined HomeGoods/TJ Maxx and it has gotten really good.
