Tile Floors & More

My Foyer

This house is my first ever that is entirely tile and I love it. These floors are one of the reasons I bought the house. I have never been one to go barefoot, but I do now - it feels so cool and wonderful under my feet. Tile floors actually reduce heat and humidity in the house. And cleaning is a breeze - a quick vac with the cordless Dyson. Once a week I use the All Purpose Cleaning Concentrate from The Laundress that I am addicted to - the smell is amazing. "This fresh scent blends eucalyptus with notes of pine and hints of rose, lily of the valley, bergamot, ylang-ylang and thyme." You can use it everywhere and I do.

The Laundress

I am a big fan of their products in general. I personally find that beautiful cleaning tools and upscale cleaning products make cleaning more enjoyable, but then I love to clean my house. It's literally one of my favorite activities. Weird, I know. My dad especially brought us kids up to take great pride in our home and we were all taught how to care for everything in the home and it really rubbed off. I was a little tot polishing copper and silver! I think my dad would be proud of my home now. Thanks Dad.

And to the well intentioned commenter from a previous post that I should add area rugs, please stop, it ain't gonna happen. LOL.

  1. I love cleaning also and it is my go to activity when I'm super stressed or life feels out of control. Our last house was all tile which is a dream. But I ended up having to wear really good sneakers or my feet would hurt from standing all day on tile. Nothing beats the feeling of clean cool tile on your feet as you stumble to the coffee pot in the morning. :-) Pamela

  2. I love the practicality of tile floors but please do make sure to take care of your feet! I find on tile if I go around barefoot or in sock feet over time my legs and lower start to complain. It took me a while to make the connection after moving from wood floors. I find wearing slippers while cooking or doing housework helps tremendously.

  3. I love the look and feel of tile floors. Yours are particularly nice, they look like travertine. You lucked out there in a big way because not all tile floors in those communities are as attractive or high end looking as yours.(I perused with a friend who is planning to move to Venice)

Some builders pick the cheapest way to go, style be damned, and it shows. I cannot imagine how much it would cost to replace them but ugly floors would be a deal breaker for me.

For that style house, rugs IMO would only get in the way; not that I haven't seen them done well, but it wouldn't be my choice to use them.

Your foyer is very pretty, green slides a nice touch.

    1. These floors are very high end and would be a fortune to put in. I loved that this house needed so little done. The inspection on it was almost flawless. I was very lucky.

  7. I have a sun room in my house that has engineered stone as flooring. I love it because it's bullet-proof, (stands up to anything), and is a cinch to clean. And yes, it stays wonderfully cool during the hot months. But standing on a surface that hard for a prolonged period of time is taxing on your feet and legs. I've found that wearing my Asics, or my Temperpedic slippers, with their pressure absorbent sole, around the house are terrific at keeping my legs and feet happy.

    1. I don't go barefoot all day, just when I feel like it.

  8. I love tile and travertine floors. There is absolutely no reason for you to cover them up! We have area rugs in the living room and den only to break up the very long visual line running from front to back in our Florida home. I will never, ever have a rug in a dining room again. It is a total waste. The feel of tile underfoot is wonderful and the look is very European!

    1. I agree about dining room rugs. I have not used one in years. And with dogs, all tile without rugs is much easier.

  10. "I should add area rugs, please stop, it ain't gonna happen." UNTILLLL, that day you walk into HG, spot a blue and white rug that won't wait, swipe that card, and bring it home to CCC! Now THAT might happen!
