Saturday Inspiration

Kristen Buckingham
Besides my dining room, my other big project for my home this year is the outside, including a new roof, gutters, and exterior painting. So I am knee deep in starting to focus in on all those decisions. The fun part will be incorporating some Chinoiserie outdoors. I have been thinking about a Chinese blue door. I have always had a glossy black door. This is an interesting alternative - the door stays high gloss black but the surround is painted Chinese blue. Do you like this?

  3. Yes Beth, I like it. It's far more sophisticated than a painted door. Sometimes that's all that can be done. If given the opportunity to step it up...do it!
    Good luck,

  4. Agree with above... the picture is stunning... but it is the green foliage which really makes the blue/ black combo stand out. I think I'd need more info about your other outdoors finishes (brick style and colour, window, guttering and roof colours etc) to make a informed decision ..
But in principle I think the blue is magnificent.

  7. This is gorgeous! I've never thought about this alternative for a front door. Depending on the color of the house among other things, this is a cool idea.

  8. I like it if it had the shrubs lining it, like in the picture. I love the juxtaposition of a chic black door against a splash of color though. Go for it! :) Anna (www.annaeleeinteriordesign.com)
