Welcome everyone to the Fall 2014 Edition of the One Room Challenge. I am thrilled that you have stopped by and honored that Linda of Calling it Home, the brilliant creator of the One Room Challenge, has asked me to participate for the fifth time. I thank you Linda and my house thanks you. The ORC is so well known after three years that it really needs no introduction, but for any newbies, an amazing group of twenty interior designers and interior design bloggers chosen by Linda have six weeks to transform a room of our choosing with weekly updates and a final reveal.
For my first One Room Challenge, I chose my kitchen. Here it is decorated for Christmas -
For my next One Room Challenge, I redid my powder room -
Next I redid my laundry room -
And this past One Room Challenge I surprised my husband with a man cave -
So what do I have up my sleeve this time around you may be wondering? I have chosen to redo my home office. When we moved into our classic brick Georgian colonial fifteen years ago, I did not have a blog or an interior design business. The library was used primarily to house my husband's extensive book collection. I went old school, painting it red with a mahogany desk and leather chair. Don't get me wrong, I love red rooms, but prefer red in a room that is used primarily at night like a formal dining room or a library.
My life has changed and it is now used exclusively by me as my office for blogging and my interior design business. I use it primarily during the day. I want a space that is bright and airy and girly and glam.
How do the baby flamingos from the first photo enter into this? You may recall that my Chinoiserie Chic Color of the Year for 2014 was lavender that I called Baby Flamingo. Flamingos are born a luscious lavender color and do not start turning coral pink until they mature. I need to paint a room in my house this lovely color before 2014 is over and the time is now.
Here are a few before photos of the space now -
This week I have scheduled Salvation Army to pick up the desk, chair, and etagere, and my painter is coming tomorrow. I am off to pick up lavender paint swatches at Benjamin Moore.
Next week we will look at paint selection, inspiration rooms, and my To Do List for the room. I hope you will enjoy following along. Here are the rest of the wonderful and talented group that Linda has put together. Let's go see what rooms they have chosen.
