People think that a small space can't handle toile, but the opposite is true. Toile in a large room can be overwhelming. This studio apartment in the July/August issue of House Beautiful makes the point perfectly. Cowtan & Tout's Chinoiserie toile Siam, with its sepia tones, adds softness, romance, stature, and elegance to the black and white palette of this one room apartment.
i am not sure if there is a cuter space anywhere.

A client needed Chinoiserie fence ideas. Of course I forwarded her several pics from your site.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a fabric junkie. Gave me the courage to 'out' myself.
Posted a recent Scalamandre historic toile today & wouldn't have done it without YOU !!!
Your site made me realize how much Chinoiserie I have throughout my garden & home.
Always considered it background-noise, until your fabulous blog.
