This bedroom was in Carolyne Roehm's former pied-a-terre in Paris. I absolutely adore it. It has been floating around in my head since I first saw it in her book A Passion for Flowers a dozen years ago. A totally feminine eighteenth century haven filled with striped pink silk taffeta, a wonderful eighteenth century bed found at the Marche aux Puces, eighteenth century fabric, a pair of Chinoiserie ginger jars, antique silver, and glorious flowers-sweet peas, ranunculas, tulips, and roses-all in shades of pink. Girly and feminine-oh yes. And please, no inevitable comments about how your husband or boyfriend doesn't like pink and canopy beds. To paraphrase the words of Charlotte Moss, the bedroom is the woman's and she invites the man in. By the way, A Passion for Flowers is my favorite book on flower arranging.
I adore this room. My 6'5" husband would say whatever makes me happy is where he wants to be. Of all the many gifts his mother gave me, bringing up a sensitive basketball player is top on my list.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous and oh so feminine!

Oh this is so luxurious looking, I think any woman would feel like a princess and any man would feel like a prince. Lovely,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteAwww, this is so romantic and perfect for V's day!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this room! The pink striped silk taffeta, the heavy mixing of patterns, the flowers, the canopy...it's all wonderful and so enveloping. I'm sure I'd never want to leave bed in the morning.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's much easier to get a new boyfriend than get a new style. In fact, I'd rather be single IN this room than dating someone and living in their fantasy. No way could that work!
