This guest bath at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2009 was created by Lynn Amon. It is a truly wonderful example of a very elegant Chinoiserie style. She kept the original fixtures like the marble sink, bringing in stunning Chinoiserie touches. The Chinese Chippendale mirror with its pagoda and double phoenix is a classic choice. I have featured orange before in Chinoiserie rooms, and this ceiling painted tangerine orange is unexpected and perfect. I adore the very sea urchin inspired Chinese lantern lighting fixture. What really inspires me are the walls that she had stenciled with orchids, then over-painted in a faux-linen finish. For other gorgeous baths I have featured in Chinoiserie Chic click here. Those magnificent walls!!!! Im at the feet of the artist complete at her/his mercy!!!!
ReplyDeletetangerine rules!!! those linenesque walls are unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteAlicia-The walls are great-the faux finish over the stenciling is a very smart idea. Plain stenciling can be a bit country for my taste.
ReplyDeleteKitty-It is very well done. The tangerine is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI am crazy CRAZY for a chinoiserie half bath... Love that mirror.
ReplyDeleteSoodie-This will give you some great ideas.
ReplyDeleteI have played around with the wall finish. This is a nice interpretation of the technique. Great post Beth!
ReplyDeleteTheresa-I knew you would have. I like the way the linen over-painting softens the stenciling.
