Happy Spring & Palm Royale

Palm Royale

Yesterday was the first day of spring and tonight is the premiere of the new series Palm Royale set in Palm Beach in 1969. It streams on Apple TV. Meanwhile the weather here in South Florida is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 - sunny and 70s and absolutely perfect.

I will be watching tonight and may just be sipping on an Old Fashioned. This classic sixties cocktail was my mom's favorite. And please, the drink is an Old Fashioned, not an Old Fashion. She drank it using Canadian Club - a cheap blended whisky that was everyone's favorite back in the day. I would highly recommend upgrading to a better bourbon or rye. Perhaps my house bourbon Woodford Reserve or for a spunkier cocktail, my house rye Rittenhouse.

Start with a sugar cube and a few dashes of Angostura bitters and muddle until dissolved. Add ice and whisky. Stir until chilled. Garnish with an orange twist and a Luxardo cherry. I am partial to using one big round ice cube.

  1. I recently cancelled my Netflix subscription. I just wasn't watching anything they had. I don't have Apple TV, but maybe I should.

    1. Ha ha! Right! I watched it on Tuesday night. (When you're retired, you lose track of the days, in a good way.) Will still be anxious to hear what you think. :-)
