Sophisticated Halloween Decorating

Society Social

I love decorating for Halloween almost as much as I love Christmas decorating. Halloween is definitely not just for kids anymore!

Here are some clever ideas from Society Social that work beautifully in this chinoiserie living room. All are easy and fun. Apples are spray painted black, flowers (Poppy Anemones) are chosen for their black centers, and canned lychees are stuffed with blackberries to look like eyeballs.

Here is how to create this look -

This spooky recipe is a creative and simple way to make a great Halloween garnish for drinks or desserts. The translucent white flesh of the lychee perfectly mimics the white of an eye, while the dark, round blackberry acts as the pupil.

Lychees stuffed with Blackberries
Ingredients
Canned lychees in syrup
Fresh blackberries

Instructions
Prepare the lychees. Drain the canned lychees and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Prepare the blackberries. For the most realistic pupil effect, you may need to trim the blackberry to fit snugly inside the lychee's hollow cavity.
Create the eyeballs. Gently push one blackberry into the hollow center of each lychee.
Eyeball punch: For an extra-spooky effect, reserve some of the lychee syrup and mix it with a bit of red food coloring to create a "bloody" garnish.

You can paint apples black for Halloween by making either decorative, non-edible apples or edible candy-coated apples. For a non-edible version, use a glossy black spray paint on faux apples. For edible "poison" apples, dip whole apples in a black candy mixture made with sugar, corn syrup, and black food coloring.

If you can't find white anemones, black calla lilies or white roses adorned with black plastic bugs and snakes would be great options.
