On Friday I am hosting a Spanish Wine Tasting and Tapas event. I love Spanish wines and tapas, so this will be fun. I have been debating what to do for a centerpiece. I was looking at the floral department at Publix and they have miniature sunflowers.
I think they will make a perfect centerpiece in a blue and white Chinese vase. Sunflowers are very popular in Spain. They are a common sight, especially in the regions of Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia, during the summer months. Sunflowers are not only a beautiful part of the landscape, but also an important crop, with Spain being a major producer of sunflower seeds and oil. Additionally, sunflower seeds are a popular snack in Spain, known as "pipas."

I am making my favorite Spanish gazpacho recipe. It is wonderful and very healthy with tomato, cucumber, fennel, red bell pepper, garlic, and olive oil. It is from a favorite cookbook -

I don't eat meat, so in lieu of the egg white and ham garnish I use a sprig of the leftover fennel fronds.
How fun! I didn’t know about sunflowers and Spain even though I’ve been there lol. I obviously wasn’t paying attention. I’ll have to get the ingredients for the gazpacho as sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love these sunflowers in the blue and white vase. I adore sunflowers. Many people do not, and consider them little more than weeds, but I find them to be nothing less than joyful. There's nothing better than a good gazpacho!
