Not for Babies Only

Rubber Duck

Yesterday I went to wash my car and realized I was out of my car wash detergent. I had the brainstorm to Google whether I could use baby shampoo and the answer was yes. My car looks great and it was so gentle on my hands too. I already use baby shampoo for a myriad of tasks around CCC.

Baby shampoo is a gentle and often cheaper alternative for cleaning lots of things like -

1. Washing your dog

2. Cleaning fine jewelry

3. Cleaning costume jewelry

4. Washing cashmere and woolens

5. Washing delicates

6. Washing dishes

7. Washing makeup brushes

8. Removing lipstick stains

9. Cleaning floors

10. Cleaning leather

11. Cleaning hair brushes

12. Any hand washing of clothing

13. Detailing car chrome - add a bit of baking soda

14. Machine washing clothes

15. Removing eye makeup

16. Unshrink your favorite sweater

17. Hand soap

18. Makeup remover

19. Clean and condition leather shoes

20. Glass cleaner

21. Stain remover

22. Cleaning countertops

23. Plant insecticide

24. Removing ring around the collar

25. Cleaning baseball hats

26. Shaving cream

27. Unsticking a zipper

28. Washing your car

Baby shampoo can be used for all these things in a pinch or as a regular cheaper alternative to things like Woolite, dog shampoo, and car wash detergent. I love the smell and how gentle it is on my hands.

And I am saving about $1,000 a year washing my car myself instead of my expensive automatic car wash and it is better for my car. I save even more than that washing the pups myself as Japanese Chins require only shampooing, no clipping. And I don't have to worry about shampoo stinging their eyes with gentle and tearless baby shampoo. And I haven't been to a dry cleaners in 5 years! Baby shampoo for the win!

You don't need to buy expensive branded baby shampoo like Johnson's. Generic baby shampoo is a fraction of the price and just the same.

  1. I totally APPLAUDE you for washing your own vehicle :) My hubby and I are astonished at what people pay to have a vehicle go thru carwash and it not be as good as u can do yourself. Again - kudos to U!!

  2. Absolutely agree. Washing your car....oh my......been decades. Printed out your list and it's now in my laundry room, I culled all those half empty bottles that have been making me crazy. From now on, a big bottle of baby shampoo. Only.
    Thanks Beth.
