Outdoor Christmas Decorating in Florida

Amanda Lindroth

I am almost finished decorating CCC for Christmas inside and now my thoughts are turning to outside. I always struggle for exterior inspiration, because in the heat here, fresh wreaths and garlands simply do not last. Even the beautiful wreaths pictured above made of palm fronds would start drying and yellowing immediately. Faux traditional wreaths and garlands would work, but don't seem very tropical.

I do have several bamboo lanterns and always use them filled with battery operated candles.

I love these seashell planters. I have a pair similar to these and might try using them with a pair of live mini Alberta Spruce or wherever.

A tip I always use outside I wanted to share. I can't stand extension cords in my yard for exterior Christmas lighting. I have a collection of battery operated LED warm white Christmas lights I use outside for lighting my topiaries. They have timers and work beautifully. The batteries last very well with the LED.

And do yourself a favor and get 48 AA batteries from Amazon - they are great batteries with a 10 year shelf life and a fraction of the cost of buying them elsewhere. You can never have enough batteries at Christmas time and everything at my home uses the AA.

If you need battery operated candles for the holidays - these are great. They are real wax, a great price, and well made - I got them four years ago and they are all still going strong -
