Setting the Thanksgiving Table

Tuckernuck

It will be a bit of a stressful day here at CCC - I have a massive oak tree right behind my home being removed today that was damaged in the last two hurricanes. I am happy it is coming down because it is aging and falling apart and poses a serious risk to my home. It is not one of the beautiful live oaks that ages well and fares well in storms here in Florida. It is a laurel oak and they start decaying from the inside out as they age and come apart in storms. But it is massive and towers over my house and I will be glad when the process is over.

On top of that, I had a serious medical scare with one of my pups a few days ago - she is fine thankfully. And on top of all that, we could have a hurricane here right around Election Day. Hopefully it will miss us. I will be very glad when everything here gets back to normal - it has been quite a stressful summer.

At any rate.... Are you hosting for Thanksgiving? I thought these photos were lovely inspiration for using blue and chinoiserie for setting the table.

The key here is using a tablecloth in darker tones as the backdrop.

I love the chinoiserie candles -

This is also the perfect table setting to bring out the silver you may have like flatware, napkin rings, or mint julep cups.

This from Ballard Designs is a favorite of mine and would be perfect in a pair as vases. I love low floral arrangements that don't block your view of others at the table -

BTW, my favorite glassware Estelle Colored Glass is having a Birthday Sale with 25% off sitewide with code ESTELLE5 at checkout here.

Here is a beautiful Fall Mixed Set -

  1. Beth, I am so sorry you are going through so much stress all at once. I’ve been in the hospital for the last 5 days after a 5 hour back surgery; cannot wait to get back to my own home and my pets.

  2. Good that the oak tree is going. You do not want a huge tree to fall on your house, yourself or your pets. A couple of Christmases ago I lost a beautiful, old, enormous oak tree that shaded the entire south side of my property. Sometime during the night it just broke at the base of the trunk and ended up blocking the entire road. I know this happened because of the erratic weather we've had over the last few years. So sad to have lost it, but thank God it did not fall on a person, or on anyone's house. Hope everything is OK with your pup, but OMG, enough with these hurricanes! That's all you need, and on election day to boot!

I think sometimes things come in waves. People go through phases of very difficult times and good times. Everyone in your part of the country has been so strong and resilient. God bless you all.

  3. So much happening all at once is overwhelming. You are a strong woman and don't give up at first take. The puppy news scared me more than the tree. All fans of your little ones will want an update. (Maybe with a photo).
The table from Tuckernuck is stunning. Unfortunately the size of the tablecloth doesn't work for me or I'd be placing an order immediately. Two years ago I started buying the Ginori plates for my daughter in Old Town. Always a success when in use. Scully and Scully NYC where I first discovered them, will now give way to, you guessed it, Tuckernuck in G-Town.
With J.Brown closed, sigh, any idea where else one can get that special something I always found at his store? In Old Town.
Beth, be of stout heart, we all hope no more storms for you. You've had enough for this season.
