September

Martha Stewart

It's September and I can't wait to start decorating for fall indoors and out. Pumpkins will be arriving soon. I especially love heirloom pumpkins. A tip - heirloom pumpkins are very thick skinned and they last far far longer than traditional orange pumpkins. Even in a hot climate like Florida, they fare much better. But do try to give your pumpkins a protected spot where they are not in direct sun. And wash and dry them well when you bring them home to remove any bacteria that can promote rot.

I have been using white or blue heirloom pumpkins at CCC, but this year I plan to use orange and peach heirloom pumpkins because they will look great with my new pair of faux calamondin orange trees flanking my front doors.

I love these - even my gardener thought they were real.

Another pretty autumn option for planters, urns, or fishbowls at your front entrance would be these faux maple trees -

Put the faux trees in your planters and weight them down with a few rocks and fill any space on the sides with garbage bags or other filler and top with sheet moss.

I love this - an  antique rusted urn with a pumpkin -

If you don't want to deal with real pumpkins, these faux pre - lit pumpkins are beautiful and available in different colors and shapes -

They are battery operated and have a 24 hour timer and are for use indoors or outdoors.

I will wait until closer to October 1st to start my Halloween decorating. I have a great collection of tropical skeletons - mermaids and alligators and such that I love.

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend.

  1. Love the orange trees! Oranges are my favorite scent and I love a big bowl of them to eat and for decoration.

I wash my pumpkins with a bleach and water mixture and they last til Christmas. I also love to decorate with dried pomegranates for fall and Christmas. I get mine on Etsy from a pomegranate farm. They keep their color and shape. Happy to share the shop if anyone is interested.

So excited about feminine, pretty clothes coming back. I'm a child of the 80s when people still took pride in and had fun with their clothes. They would have died before going out in pajamas.

Lastly, thank you for the post including the Ballard Designs bamboo light fixture. I got one for my dining room, I love bamboo.

  2. Beth, how do your faux orange trees do in the sun?

    1. These are in a protected entrance so they are mostly protected from the elements and have not deteriorated at all.

  3. Have you ever thought of painting your front door blue? It would look fabulous with that gorgeous tile.

    1. I live in a gated community with HOA rules on everything and it is not allowed.

  4. Those are some wild looking pumpkins, Beth. I love your blue and white pottery with the orange trees. I thought they were real too. I still recall your post sometime back with the two flowering gardenia trees, and made up my mind that I was going to have some in my yard, Recently I purchased two "First Love" standard gardenia trees, and had my gardener plant them in adjacent planting beds. I had the hard scape removed in that part of my yard too and replaced it with brick. I had big plans for that area of my garden, but unfortunately, the gardenia trees began to look very unhappy. I discovered that I was over watering them, so I quickly dug them up and planted them in potting soil in large terra cotta pots, and bought a moisture meter so that I don't over water again. Keeping my fingers crossed that they will survive. Gardenias can be fussy.
